ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Alaska Railroad expands its add-on offerings for the 2025 summer season. Passengers now have even more options to create customized itineraries. From experiences like scenic flights over the Arctic Circle, guided tours of Anchorage on a historic trolley and exploring glaciers from a helicopter in Seward, all are available to bundle with a train ride.
New add-ons for the summer 2025 season available with Alaska tour operators include:
Alaska Helicopter Tours in Anchorage
- Grand Knik Tour – A two-hour adventure featuring a 40-minute flight and three remote landings, including one on Knik Glacier.
- Knik Glacier Landing – A 60-minute helicopter tour over Knik Glacier's dramatic ice formations, with a landing for expert-guided exploration of the glacier.
- Helicopter & Glacial Dog Sled – A two-hour tour that includes a helicopter flight to Knik Glacier and mushing a sled dog team.
Alaska Helicopter Tours in Seward (accessible via the Coastal Classic Train)
- Bear Glacier Landing – A 15-minute flight over Kenai Fjords National Park with a remote landing near Bear Glacier, where visitors can explore a secluded beach and watch for moose, sheep and bears.
- Heli Dog Sled & Bear Glacier Tour – Fly over glaciers and icebergs, land on an ice field and ride or drive a dog sled with the Iditarod-champion Seavey family.
- Helicopter & Dog Sled – Experience glaciers from the air and a thrilling dog sled ride on an ice field near Bear Glacier with the Seavey family.
- Helicopter Hiking – Fly over Kenai Fjords National Park, then go on a guided hike tailored to different skill levels with chances to spot wildlife on the flight.
- Grand Seward Tour – A 30-minute flight over Kenai Fjords National Park offers prime bear-spotting opportunities. Land by a 100-foot ice wall and explore the lagoon shoreline.
- Kenai Fjords National Park Tour – Soar above Kenai Fjords National Park, Bear Glacier and Resurrection Bay, taking in icebergs, glaciers and marine wildlife.
Anchorage Trolley City Tours
- Deluxe City Tour – A two-hour narrated trolley ride through the city of Anchorage covering history, nature and culture. Stops include Ship Creek, Earthquake Park, Lake Hood and scenic views from Point Woronzof.
- 1-Hour City Tour – A one-hour narrated tour featuring Anchorage's top sights, including floatplanes, the Alaska Railroad and Ship Creek.
Arctic Circle Adventures Tours in Fairbanks (accessible via the Denali Star Train)
- Arctic Circle Air Adventure – Fly round-trip from Fairbanks to Coldfoot, north of the Arctic Circle, and visit Wiseman. Guests also receive an Arctic Circle Certificate for visiting the remote area. (Available as an add on to the Centennial package.)
- Arctic Circle Drive Adventure – A full-day coach tour along the rugged Dalton Highway. Cross the Arctic Circle, see the Yukon River and Trans-Alaska Pipeline and explore the Arctic tundra. (Available as an add on to the Centennial package.)
- Arctic Circle Midnight Sun Adventure – Similar to the Drive Adventure, but timed for the Midnight Sun experience offering extended daylight during the journey.

Four routes are available during the Alaska Railroad's summer season running from mid-May to mid-September.
- The flagship Denali Star Train (beginning May 14) runs between Anchorage and Fairbanks with stops in Wasilla, Talkeetna and Denali National Park and Preserve.
- The last flagstop train in the U.S., the Hurricane Turn Train (beginning May 15) provides backcountry access between Talkeetna and Hurricane.
- The Coastal Classic Train (beginning May 16) travels between Anchorage to Seward with access to Kenai Fjords National Park.
- The Glacier Discovery Train (beginning May 12) offers exclusive access to Spencer Glacier located in the Chugach National Forest as well as Whittier on the shores of Prince William Sound.
