Durango, Colo. (November 8, 2025)— Durango, the gem of Southwest Colorado, sits in the Animas River Valley, surrounded by the rugged San Juan Mountains. The authentically Old West mountain town touts the iconic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, a stop on the Historic Colorado Hot Springs Loop, more than 480 km of in-town hiking and biking trails, Purgatory Ski Resort, and UNESCO World Heritage Site - Mesa Verde National Park.

The Durango Hot Springs Resort & Spa Expansion

The Durango Hot Springs Resort and Spa continues to expand its offerings. The resort touts 40 water features, including 32 hot springs mineral pools, five wooden Ofuro tubs, two cold plunge pools, a water tower, and a 25-meter swimming pool in the newly renovated resort. In 2024, the resort introduced the Trimble Club, offering guests the opportunity to upgrade their experience with private soaking, poolside service, and a private shower and locker area.

Polar Express: Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad

The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad's Polar Express excursions take place from November 23 to January 3. It is a magical ride that takes guests of all ages, dressed in holiday pajamas, through the beautiful snow-covered Animas Valley as they enjoy hot chocolate and Christmas goodies. The themed train ride features all your favorite characters from the cherished Christmas story, including Santa, his reindeer, and elves who will greet guests when the train visits the North Pole.

EsoTerra Ciderworks opened its latest venture, The Arboretum, in July 2025. Located outside Durango, Colorado, at 6,830' in elevation, The Arboretum is set to be America's highest estate winery. The sprawling 73-acre Southwest estate touts over 40 grape varietals grown on-site, exclusive vineyard tours, and hands-on wine/cider-making experiences.

Purgatory Resort's 35,000 acres of Backcountry

Durango's Purgatory Resort touts more than 35,000 acres of skiable backcountry, which can be accessed via Purgatory Snowcat Adventures. Their snowcat operation can accommodate 12 guests per snowcat and takes the group on an exclusive guided adventure featuring fresh powder in Colorado's largest backcountry acreage.

Purgatory Resort's Power Kids Pass

This winter the Purgatory Resort's free kids' season pass, Power Kids Pass, will be available for children ages 12 and under. This is the only pass in North America that grants free unlimited skiing and riding to all kids, no blackout dates or purchase required.

Durango Mesa Park

The Durango Mesa Park features 1,900-acres of open space located less than 1.5 km from Durango's historic Main Ave. Upon completion, the park is expected to be the largest mountain bike trail system in the US! The first phase of the park (2023) added 12 km of connecting trails to the already existing 92km trail system, plus a downhill bike park. The next phase is currently in process and will include a “Cycling Stadium,” BMX track, strider areas, world-cup-level XC course, and a cyclocross course. The park is an exciting contribution to Durango's long-standing reputation as an international cycling destination for Olympians and amateurs alike.
