- A Unique Destination Where Skiing is Steps Away From Shopping, Hockey Games and Festivals -
Edmonton's winter season has officially begun, and with it comes a feature rarely found in major urban centres: four downhill ski hills operating entirely within city limits. Snow Valley Ski Club, Rabbit Hill Snow Resort, Edmonton Ski Club, and Sunridge Ski Area are now open for the 2025/26 season, offering visitors an unusually convenient way to experience skiing and snowboarding without leaving the city.
Urban ski hills are uncommon across North America; having four in one city positions Edmonton as a destination where travellers can combine urban exploration with outdoor winter activity in a way that is both accessible and time-efficient. For visitors, this creates an opportunity to pair time on the slopes with the city's broader winter offerings — from concerts, live theatre and NHL hockey to signature festivals, attractions, shopping, meetings and events.
Snow Valley Ski Club
Located in Whitemud Park, Snow Valley offers eight runs serviced by a quad chairlift, triple chairlift and two magic-carpet lifts. The terrain is suited to beginner and intermediate skiers, and includes snowmaking, night skiing and a small terrain-park area.
Rabbit Hill Snow Resort
Rabbit Hill is the largest of Edmonton's in-city ski areas, with 11 groomed runs across roughly 40 acres and a lift network that includes a triple chairlift, rope tows, T-bars and magic carpets. With a vertical drop of approximately 98 metres, it offers the greatest elevation change among the city's hills along with a well-established terrain park and tubing area.
Edmonton Ski Club
Located in Gallagher Park, the Edmonton Ski Club has played a role in the city's winter sports culture since 1911. The hill features 6 runs over about 17 acres, using two Poma lifts, one T-bar and a carpet lift. Its central location and night skiing make it an accessible introduction to skiing and snowboarding for visitors looking to add winter activity to their trip.
Sunridge Ski Area
Situated near Yellowhead Trail, Sunridge Ski Area spans 12 runs and a five lift system that includes quad and triple chairlifts and carpet lifts. The hill offers a broad range of experiences — from snow tubing and beginner terrain to terrain-park features and evening skiing.
Together, these four ski hills create a winter offering that few cities can match. With all hills now open for the season, visitors can experience skiing and snowboarding within minutes of Edmonton's hotels, attractions, restaurants, festivals, shopping districts and major events — a defining feature that sets the city apart as a uniquely accessible winter destination.
