Traverse City has climbed to the top as a world travel destination, according to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal. The highly acclaimed publication included the northwest Michigan city on its list of “10 Best Places to Go in 2025.”
“Those of us who live and work here know this is a special area,” said Traverse City Tourism President, Trevor Tkach (Tuh-COTCH). “But when the Wall Street Journal puts you in a world spotlight, that's an amazing honor.”
The story highlighted the beauty of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, the vibrant culinary scene, and beverage tourism that includes nearly 50 wineries. “Traverse City can feel surprisingly cosmopolitan for its size,” the story concluded.
Only three U.S. locations, other than Traverse. City, made the top ten list: Maui, Hawaii, and Macon, Georgia. Rounding out the complete list were:
- Amsterdam
- Morocco
- Malta
- Niseko, Japan
- Madhya Pradesh, India
- Magdalena River, Columbia
- South Caicos – Turks and Caicos
Tkach notes this type of recognition is a nod to the region's natural splendor and the committed efforts of the hospitality community. “We are being recognized as a premiere travel destination because we deliver authentic experiences in all four seasons,” Tkach said.
