Philadelphia To Host Exciting Slate of Festivals, Events, and Performances in Spring/Summer 2024

Philadelphia, PA (March 25, 2024) — From enchanting cherry blossoms to lively outdoor festivals, Philadelphia comes alive with opportunities for visitors to embrace the beauty of the season. Favorite seasonal activities including the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival, Penn Relays, and the South 9th Street Italian Market Festival make their anticipated return to the city, promising unforgettable experiences. Meanwhile, the performing arts scene dazzles with must-see performances including Hadestown, Cirque du Soleil, and Madame Butterfly by the Philadelphia Opera, ensuring there's something for every taste. 

Philadelphia kicks off its spring events by hosting WrestleMania XL.® This week-long celebration of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE ®) will take over Philadelphia, with the main event at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 7, 2024. With WrestleMania-related events also taking place at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and other top venues, this citywide event is a great opportunity for visitors to explore Philadelphia’s diverse, walkable neighborhoods in the spring. The blockbuster event kicks off a whole season of exciting spring events in Philadelphia.

Imprint: Dox Thrash Black Life, and American Culture 

March 23 – August 4, 2024 

African American Museum in Philadelphia 

 

Explore the life and artistic legacy of Dox Thrash, a visionary printmaker, in the exhibition “Imprint: Dox Thrash Black Life, and American Culture.” Born in 1893, Thrash’s journey from an artist to a printmaking trailblazer is highlighted, showcasing his resilience and creative spirit. The exhibition delves into the diverse influences of Thrash, including his experiences as a Buffalo Soldier, a performer on the Black Vaudeville circuit, and an art student in Chicago, presenting rarely-seen works that provide insight into his personal narrative.

WrestleMania 40 

April 6-7, 2024 

Lincoln Financial Field 

The biggest event in sports entertainment touches down in Philadelphia for the first time in 25 years when Wrestlemania 40 brings two nights of high-flying, in-ring action to Lincoln Financial Field. Expect thousands of fans, scores of celebrities and plenty of fireworks. 

 

Dine Latino Restaurant Week 

April 7-13, 2024 

 

Organized by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the twice-a-year Dine Latino Restaurant Week aims to boost business at the region’s Latino-owned restaurants. Keep an eye out for deals at participating locations across the five-county region, including El Merkury, Añejo, and Geronimo’s. Also up for spring 2024: the next installment of Dine Latino’s limited series of intimate chef’s tastings featuring Brazas BBQ Chicken’s chef Juan Andres Placencia and his famous ceviche and Peruvian chicken. 

 

Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival 

April 7-26, 2024 

Fairmount Park 

When the cherry blossoms bloom in Fairmount Park, spring has arrived. The Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia celebrates the change of seasons with over three weeks of programming throughout the city featuring Japanese music, arts and culture. Be sure not to miss the festival’s hallmark event: Sakura Weekend, a free, family-friendly celebration on April 13 and 14, 2024 at Fairmount Park Horticulture Center and Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center complete with musical performances, cultural activities, workshops, dancing, a beer garden, marketplace and more. 

 

Parks on Tap

April 17 to September 29

Parks on Tap was created to be a traveling beer garden throughout the city's various, beautiful parks all summer long. Proceeds from Parks on Tap benefit the Fairmount Park Conservancy. The 2024 season kicks off at the Azalea Garden near the Philadelphia Museum of Art and moves to a new park location each week. Festival of Colors at Philadelphia Zoo

Philadelphia Zoo and the Council of Indian Organizations are proud to present an Indian Festival of Colors! Visit the Zoo for a day of Indian music, dancing, food, and fun featuring artists from Philadelphia’s vibrant Indian-American community. Holi celebrates the arrival of spring, the end of winter, the blossoming of love, and for many, it is a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships. Festivities begin at 12:00 PM with performances, activities, and a color throwing ceremony! 


 
Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival

StrEAT Food Festival returns to Manayunk with more than 50 different food trucks and gourmet food vendors. The event will bring endless possibilities for your taste buds - so come to StrEAT and bon appétit! This rain or shine event is the perfect spring escape for visitors of all ages. Main Street Manayunk is closed to vehicle traffic to allow all visitors a chance to gather and explore the historic neighborhood. Visitors can grab everything from savory BBQ to sweet desserts as Philadelphia’s best food trucks and gourmet food vendors bring the flavor to historic Main Street Manayunk.  

 

Penn Relays 

April 25-27, 2024 

Franklin Field, 235 S. 33rd Street 

As the nation’s oldest and largest track and field competition, the Penn Relays features a massive three-day festival each year at the University of Pennsylvania’s historic Franklin Field. The event includes heated competitions between the nation’s top high school, college and professional runners, along with a Carnival Village full of music, parties, merchandise and apparel stalls, and food and drink vendors. 

 

The Philadelphia Show 

April 25-28, 2024 

Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway 

One of the nation’s leading art and design fairs returns to the Philadelphia Museum of Art for the third time in its 60-plus years. Staged on the museum’s East Terrace, the show features over 40 U.S. exhibitors specializing in fine art, collectible design and antiques. 

 

Franklin Square Spring Season Opening Day 

Saturday April 27

Springtime in Franklin Square means the spectacular fountain is back on and dancing to music, the SquareBurger grill is sizzling, and the carousel is spinning, all ready for the season ahead. On Opening Day, families can enjoy free rides aboard the Parx Liberty Carousel, and the opening day performance of the Franklin Square Fountain Show. 

Throughout the spring, the 186-year-old Rendell Family Fountain dazzles with spectacular shows featuring choreographed lights and water. Fountain jets dance magically with music as LED lights glisten for visitors. Guests visiting the park can enjoy free choreographed fountain performances every half hour. 
 
Flavors on the Avenue

East Passyunk Avenue from Broad Street to Dickinson 
 
East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District presents the Flavors on the Avenue street festival on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 11:00am to 5:00pm. The food festival will feature five blocks of street food, seasonal sips, craft beer, live music, sidewalk sales and free family fun – on East Passyunk Avenue from Broad to Dickinson streets. Over two-dozen award-winning restaurants, cafes and bars will bring their signature cuisine outside under the blue skies. Craft beer, signature cocktails and wine will pour from select restaurants outdoors. East Passyunk Flavors on the Avenue is free to attend and open to all ages. Food and drink are pay-as-you-go.

11th Annual Maifest Spring Festival on South Street 
Saturday, May 4, 2024 
South Street 700 Block 
 

The 11th annual Maifest, hosted by Brauhaus Schmitz on May 4 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., will transform the 700 block of South Street into a vibrant celebration of the season featuring food, drinks, dancers, and live music, all free and open to the public; limited VIP tickets are available. Attendees can enjoy authentic German fare and pay-as-you-go food and beer options, along with traditional German dancers and live music by Heimatklänge and opportunities to purchase flower crowns. The festival offers a family-friendly and pedestrian-friendly atmosphere, shutting down traffic on the block for the day. 

 

Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival

Walnut Street from the Avenue of the Arts to Rittenhouse Square 

One of Philly’s premier street festivals, the annual Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival highlights the neighborhood’s reputation as a food and culture hotspot. Dozens of booths line Walnut Street and the area around Rittenhouse Square Park, offering art, beauty, fashion, family fun, food, culinary demonstrations, and beer and cocktail samplings. 

   

Penn Live Arts Presents Annual Philadelphia Children’s Festival 
Presented by Penn Live Arts

The festival features an exciting array of professional family-friendly performances and events, including Machine de Cirque, Calpulli Mexican Dance Company, Pilobolus @ Play, The Amazing Max, and Literature to Life. The outdoor PLAYground will offer hands-on activities and free performances by Alex & the Kaleidoscope and Give & Take Jugglers. 
 

Kensington Derby & Arts Festival

This festival brings Philadelphia locals and visitors together with artists, musicians, performers, food and drink—and a parade of homemade vehicles.  This whimsical event attracts more than 200 local arts and food vendors, live art demonstrations and performances.  This event has grown into an annual fundraising effort for East Kensington Neighbors Association and supports their ongoing mini-grant program, which gives back to local nonprofits and businesses in the East Kensington neighborhood.   
 

Philly Wine Fest

Enjoy seasonal wines from more than a dozen wineries and visit your favorite animals at the Zoo! This event is limited to those 21 or older with valid identification. Tickets include tastings and admission to the Zoo. 
 

South 9th Street Italian Market Festival 

May 18-19, 2024 

South 9th Street Italian Market, 919 S. 9th Street 

Famous for its delectable cuisine, the South 9th Street Italian Market puts on a boisterous weekend of food and culture, including craft vendors, live music, game tournaments and the very-Philly greased-pole-climbing contest. But the real spotlight? The food, of course. Stroll the market for great deals on homemade sausages, decadent cannoli, imported cheeses, cappuccino, fresh pasta and more. 

 

Mary Cassatt at Work at the Philadelphia Museum of Art 

May 18 - September 8, 2024 

Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway 

This new exhibition celebrating Pennsylvania-born impressionist artist Mary Cassatt explores gender, labor and feminine agency through over 130 prints, paintings and pastels. Also included: new findings about the advanced processes and materials Cassatt used in the early 20th century. This is the first major showing of Cassatt’s life’s work in over 25 years. 

 

 

Philadelphia Latino Arts and Film Festival 

May 26 - July 7, 2024 

Film buffs can find works by established and emerging Latino filmmakers at the annual Philadelphia Latino Film Festival. The lineup includes feature films, shorts, animations, web series and documentaries, along with workshops and discussions. 

 

Philly Beer Week 

May 31 - June 9, 2024 

Philly Beer Week returns this June with 10 days of events, tastings, happy hours, pub crawls and foamy fun. Since 2007, the annual tradition has brought together breweries from around the city — and country — to show us all why Philly is one of the nation’s best beer cities. 

  

The Roots Picnic at The Mann Center 
June 1-2, 2024 

The annual music festival curated by and named for Philly hip-hop band The Roots always boasts an exciting lineup, highlighting groundbreaking up-and-comers and legendary acts alike. For the 2024 festival, attendees can look forward to performances from Philly’s own Jill Scott, the incomparable Lil Wayne and 90s rap royalty Nas. 

 
Philly Gay Pride Month 
June 1 to June 30, 2024 
Hosted at dozens of venues around the Philadelphia region 
 
Philadelphia will celebrate June as Philly Gay Pride Month with a 30 day and night celebration featuring events, activities, benefits, specials and programs by community organizations, small businesses, nonprofits, cultural institutions, tourist attractions, restaurants, bars and more. 

 

ODUNDE Festival 

June 2-9, 2024 

Centered at South Street & South 23rd Street 

The country’s largest Black and African cultural festival — now in its 49th year and drawing nearly 500,000 attendees — brings an authentic taste of Africa to South Philadelphia. ODUNDE begins with a week of events and culminates on Sunday, June 9, 2024 with an outdoor festival featuring dozens of vendors, live music and performances, and pay-as-you-go African, Caribbean and soul food dishes. 
 

Philadelphia Pride March and Festival: Be You 
Sunday, June 2, 2024 
Parade - 10:30am at 6th and Walnut 
Festival - 12:00pm to 7:00pm 
 
The annual Philadelphia Pride March begins at 6th and Walnut streets and features music, speeches, a morning ceremony and a 400-foot Pride flag. When the march reaches the Gayborhood, the festival will begin, featuring over 200 small businesses and organizations, performers, entertainers, artists, vendors, local bars, food trucks, community organizations, stages and much more. The march and festival are free to attend. 

 

Rittenhouse Square Fine Art Show

June 7-9, 2024

11AM to 6PM - 1800 Walnut Street

Founded by artists in 1928, the Rittenhouse Square Fine Art Show is the oldest outdoor art show in the country. The show features over 100 artists from around the country showasing a variety of styles and media and is free from the public to view

 

Philadelphia Juneteenth Parade & Festival

Festival 10AM to 8PM – Malcolm X Park 

Juneteenth is the celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. The Philadelphia Juneteenth Parade and Festival, started by the Pennsylvania Juneteenth Initiative, is the largest annual celebration in the nation, drawing over 25,000 attendees to experience a culturally festive 1.5 mile long parade with over 2,000 participants and 20+ floats. The celebration continues with a festival at the historic Malcolm X Park with over 250 vendors and a musical concert for the entire family to enjoy!

Hadestown at the Academy of Music

This wildly successful, transformative work by Anaïs Mitchell intertwines the love stories of Orpheus and Eurydice, and King Hades and Persephone. The vibrant, hopeful musical won an impressive eight Tony Awards in 2019, and the 2020 Grammy for best musical theater album. 

 

BalletX Festival 

April 26-27, 2024 

The Mann Center 

Philly’s resident contemporary ballet company arrives at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts for two days of community, live music and soul-stirring dance. On the main stage, audiences lose themselves in a world premiere by choreographer Natasha Adorlee, the Philadelphia premiere of Takehiro Ueyama’s history-inspired piece, Heroes, and the long-awaited return of Jamar Roberts’ Eros & Psyche. 

 

Madame Butterfly – Philadelphia Opera

Opera Philadelphia’s 2023-2024 Season closes in spectacular fashion this spring with a new production of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly that illuminates and ultimately transcends harmful stereotypes, empowering the protagonist Cio Cio San with new choices for her future. 

 

An Army of Lovers, a new play by R. Eric Thomas
